About Me
Hi, I'm Gerry!
I have over 42 years of teaching experience. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Northeastern University and my Master's degree in Math and Computer Science education from Concordia University. I moved to St. Charles in 2018 after retiring from Lane Tech High School where I taught for 17 years. I missed being in the classroom with students. I am now working as a Teacher's Assistant in the Special Education Dept. in the St. Charles School District. I live with my wife and two college age step-sons. We have another son who lives in suburban Los Angeles. We have two dogs that I enjoy taking for walks and spending time with. My wife and I love the area and the natural beauty around here. Interests include spending time with my wife, travelling, the Cubs, fishing and golf. I am definitely an outdoor person!
I believe that all students can learn math. There may be various reasons why that does not always happen. When tutoring I like to explore those reasons and make adjustments to give the students a better chance to succeed. I think my greatest asset is my ability to connect with students and let them know that we are on the same side.
In addition to math content, I explore study skills, test-taking skills, note-taking skills and organizational skills. I believe these are just as important as learning the actual content and can aid in a student's success. I have a very good rapport with my students and that helps with the entire process. I also tutor for the ACT exam.
I am available for virtual individual tutoring and would consider small group options.
